Carpinus betulus, known as European hornbeam, is a moderately slow-growing deciduous tree. It has a similar look to European beech, but its leaves are smaller and more deeply furrowed, with finer toothed edges. They turn golden yellow-brown in Autumn.
This is a refined bonsai in a one of various styles. It has some visible taper, branches already set in position, and interesting root flare/nebari. Developed, hard pruned, wired, refined, and potted, this is a healthy plant and does not need any substantial work for now beyond appropriate plant care. It is potted in a plastic bonsai pot, which comes with a tray, in a free-draining peat-free mixed soil with seramis and shredded sphagnum moss.
